The result: special insights into the spaces of the concert hall and a rare opportunity to get to know the artists personally beyond the stage. “In this unpredictable and constantly changing world, diversity is the main thing that drives us forwards,” claims Sào Soulez Larivière. “In this vibrant harbour, every wave brings a greeting from afar,” he gushes, while looking out over the Elbe. “This also reflects my roots and my own personal journey.” In this Elbphilharmonie Innerview, the violist, who has Dutch and French roots, talks about being cosmopolitan and the power of music to connect people, as well as his own vision and what makes his instrument so special. A cosmopolitan outlook “Music is a universal language that connects me with a wide variety of places and people,” says Sào Soulez Larivière, who describes himself as having a “cosmopolitan outlook”. Born in Paris in 1998, his education first took him to the Yehudi Menuhin School in England, before he moved to Berlin to study under star violist Tabea Zimermann. For some time now, the award-winning violist has been travelling around the world to play concerts. He is grateful for the opportunity he has had to experience various cultures: “Every experience enriches my perspectives and encourages a deep appreciation of the richness of the various forms of human expression.” Along the way, I have learned in particular to love differences and see the beauty in the previously unfamiliar. The power of music to connect people is something he experiences not only through contact with the audience, as a unique opportunity for emotional communication, but also when making music with others: “Chamber music plays a key role in the viola's artistic identity,” explains Sào Soulez Larivière, who has also played lots of music since childhood with his sister, the violinist Cosima Soulez Larivière. Chamber music is where he experiences what lies at the heart of human interaction: “You need to learn how to listen attentively and adapt your own playing. For me, this embodies the essence of communication, which is listening, empathy, and sincerity.” Curiosity and an appetite for discovery For Sào Soulez Larivière, the viola, which spent a long time in the shadow of the violin and cello as a solo instrument, has a special kind of potential to advance not just its specific repertoire, but also the music world in general. “It's all about being brave enough to experiment and find creative ways of breaking down the traditional boundaries of classical music,” he believes. With his genuine artistic openness and numerous composition commissions, the Berlin-based musician has already become one of the greatest ambassadors for his instrument – and has been passing on his appetite for discovery as a lecturer at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg since 2023. He is convinced that “music itself can awaken curiosity”. And this is a great gift he wants to share. Where stories set sail Sào Soulez Larivière sees the Elbphilharmonie as an ideal place: “Right on the waterfront, this concert hall is a harbour from where a host of different stories set sail.” His own story will see him return as a European Concert Hall Organisation ‘Rising Star’ in January 2025, when he will put on an extensive solo evening show in the venue's Kleiner Saal. Performing a brand-new work by Julia Wolfe, along with spherical sounds, technical virtuosity, and novel tones, he will showcase the many facets of his instrument – partly accompanied by the acclaimed percussionist Christoph Sietzen. We wish everybody an unforgettable evening!",

With visions “A thrilling mix of carefree and talent,” enthuses one critic from the broadcaster SWR, while the newspaper Der Tagesspiegel talks of “a kind of unstudied nonchalance”. vision string quartet burst onto the international stage just a few years ago and conquered all before them. Since then, they have become one of the most in demand and exciting outfits on the chamber music scene. Besides the classical repertoire for string quartets, the foursome also perform their own compositions and arrangements from jazz, pop and rock. The concerts put on by the four young musicians are big on variety and sometimes border on the extraordinary. The string quartet also see themselves as a band and feel at home in many environments. So, apart from classical concerts, they can also be seen performing in video and light installations at Berlin’s radialsystem venue, at thrilling concerts staged in the dark or at ballet productions put on by Hamburg choreographer John Neumeier.
When you have spent your life striving to be the best in driving some of the world’s fastest cars, it is easy to believe that one would slow down at some point. But after two decades in the pit lane, Rosberg carries on with the same pace and dedication outside of the racetrack. Consequently, it’s not a surprise that he was awarded with the ‘2021 European Culture Award for the Environment’, just five years after he decided to use his power for a more sustainable world. Although his new path seems to be the antithesis of what he did before, Nico already imagined his life on a different track while he was still active in F1. He promised himself to do something meaningful and found his calling in sustainability. Celebrating change at the Greentech Festival in Berlin In 2018, alongside two co-founders, Rosberg launched the annual Greentech Festival , now a leading platform for green technologies, ideas and products. The objective is to showcase some of the most forward-thinking sustainable innovations and create a global community of change-makers and innovators. The inaugural festival was held in Berlin in 2019 and has grown into one of the biggest green tech related knowledge transfer platforms around the world. In 2021, the Greentech Festival has even been expanded to further markets such as the UK, showing the global acceptance and relevance of the festival. The event has also been serving as a stage for illustrious speakers like the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the Google CEO, Sundar Pichai. The Greentech Festival is one of our lighthouse projects. We want to showcase the best of the best that's out there in the hope to accelerate positive change. Making an impact as an investor The former race car driver’s career as a sustainability entrepreneur is not only limited to promoting green technology at his festival. He also invests in startups and companies that create sustainable innovations. In his role as Julius Baer's global ambassador, he stands for the Bank’s commitments and initiatives in the areas of sustainability, sustainable investing and future trends. While many of his investments revolve around the future of mobility, others relate to different sectors of a green economy. For instance, one of the startups on the German version of ‘Shark Tank’ that Nico decided to invest in is a brand that produces pasta made from 15 percent cricket flour. While insect flour is not yet widely accepted in the western world, there are approximately 2 billion people who already incorporate insects into their weekly nutrition. The benefits of consuming insects are remarkable – fewer emissions, less space consumption, cost-efficiency, and water savings, among others. To Rosberg, success as a sustainability entrepreneur is building a legacy that positively impacts the world. He places great importance on investing in products and technologies that are not detrimental to society or harmful to the environment. Although environmental, social and governance (ESG) standards have been set in place, there is still a long way to go in establishing global checks and balances that monitor the actions of businessmen and investors. Therefore, he strongly believes that investors must go a step further and pay close attention to potential projects before providing financial support. Furthermore, one of his investment principles is to only invest in products and business ideas that he also fully comprehends. The electric revolution Rosberg is also one of the earliest investors in Formula E , an all-electric car racing series launched in 2014. In 2020, it became the second single-seater car racing series to be accorded the FIA world championship status, the first being Formula One. The most distinctive feature about this racing series is the seamless introduction of sustainable innovation to motorsport; thus showing that sustainability does not necessarily mean less fun. Formula E’s technology is already widely being transformed into electric road cars. With race cars, any millisecond can be the difference between victory and defeat. Given the hyper competitive nature of racing, motorsport has always been a test bed for new technologies. The rear-view mirror and anti-lock braking system had their start mainly on the racetrack and the Formula E race cars are pushing the boundaries when it comes to EV driving under prolonged and strenuous driving conditions. They create valuable learning opportunities that will then feed into the design of millions of production cars down the road. There's such an opportunity out there now in the mobility sector to disrupt everything and create everything in a much more sustainable way. Furthermore, Formula E shows people how capable and exciting electric vehicles are, thereby acting also as public information campaign for the future of mobility. The share of plug-in care sales in core European markets has gone from roughly 2 percent to nearly 10 percent in the last four years. By some estimates, electric vehicles will make up more than 4 out of 5 cars sold by 2030. It's a family thing Nico’s passion for sustainable technology and his vision of a community of people and businesses striving for a more sustainable world is not just limited to his career. He and his family have for example also educated themselves about pollutants and other factors that could be damaging to the environment. As a father who wants to raise his two daughters to be goal-oriented and passionate about caring for others, he tries to make fighting against climate change fun, easy to understand, and a part of everyday life. The Monaco-based family has succeeded in eliminating plastic from their home and also owns an electric car and e-bikes. It makes sense to go more plant based for the animal rights, for emissions, for pollution, for damaging our oceans, for everything. Furthermore, he explains that after watching the documentary ‘Cowspiracy’, they rethought their eating habits. The family reduced their meat and fish consumption and switched to a more plant-based diet as a way of supporting animal rights, reducing emissions, and keeping the oceans clean. "The path to sustainable development is one that every individual should embrace. There is an incredible amount of information on sustainability and the steps that we can take towards making the earth cleaner and safer. It all starts with awareness and discovering small but creative steps to make sustainability a part of our lives," concludes Rosberg. Our Wealth Insights series focuses on the most important moments in life – whether it is starting a business, building up a fortune, moving abroad, preparing for retirement or transferring wealth to the next generation. We ask the relevant questions and provide answers from a wealth management perspective.",

It represents a vision for the future of the motor industry over the coming decades, serving as a framework for research and development around the electric vehicle, accelerating general interest in these cars and promoting sustainable and innovative technologies. From September 2014 to June 2015, the championship will compete in the centre of 10 of the world’s leading cities – including Beijing, London, Berlin, Monte Carlo and Buenos Aires – racing around their iconic landmarks. For the inaugural season, 10 teams, each with two drivers, will go head-to-head, including among others former Formula 1 drivers Lucas di Grassi, Nick Heidfeld, Jarno Trulli, Sébastien Buemi, Nelson Piquet Jr and Bruno Senna as well as two female drivers, Michela Cerruti and Katherine Legge. There will be both a drivers’ and a teams’ championship. All Formula E races will be one-day events on city-centre circuits with practice, qualifying and the race taking place on a single day in order to minimise disruption to the host city. The races will begin by standing start and last for approximately one hour with drivers making one mandatory pit stop in order to change cars. The cars have a maximum speed of 225 km/h and are at top speed slightly louder than an ordinary car. Starting with the first race in Beijing on 13 September 2014, Julius Baer will be the exclusive Global Partner of Formula E. Its logo will be prominently shown both on the cars and on the race tracks. For the Bank, Formula E with its visionary approach and global reach is an ideal sponsorship platform as the new race series stands for many values Julius Baer shares, such as innovation, sustainability and forward-looking pioneering spirit. “We are excited to support the FIA Formula E Championship as its exclusive Global Partner. This gives us the unique opportunity to get involved in the world’s first fully-electric racing series which fosters innovation towards more sustainable means of transport. Formula E provides us with a first-rate global platform to share this bold vision with our clients,” said Boris F.J. Collardi, Chief Executive Officer of Julius Baer. Alejandro Agag, CEO of Formula E, said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming Julius Baer to the Formula E family and to see their commitment and support to clean energy and sustainability.
Zurich, 16 March 2015 – The objective of the FIA Formula E Championship is to promote sustainable mobility and the use of advanced emission-free electric vehicles, especially in cities. As motorsport Grand Prix have been forbidden in Switzerland for decades, in 2014 the Swiss National Councillor Fathi Derder put forward a motion to exempt electric races from this ban in order to actively support the development of sustainable technologies. The motion was subsequently backed by the Federal Council, the National Council and now by the Council of States. This decision of the parliament paves the way for a possible Swiss ePrix already during the 2016/17 season. Prior to today’s decision, the two Swiss sponsors of the FIA Formula E, Julius Baer, exclusive Global Partner of the FIA Formula E Championship, and TAG Heuer, founding partner and official timekeeper of the world’s first fully-electric racing series, had organised an extraordinary drive through downtown Geneva to bring a Formula E car to the streets of Switzerland for the first time. On this occasion, the car was filmed for a video promoting a Swiss ePrix – among others showing former Formula 1 driver and current Formula E driver Nick Heidfeld who has lived in Switzerland for years and supports this initiative. “As exclusive Global Partner of Formula E and Swiss company, we are excited about the decision of the Council of States and thank the Swiss parliament, the Federal Council and Fathi Derder for this historic move. Julius Baer strongly supports the efforts of Formula E to advance the development of emission-free technologies and mobility to enable a more sustainable future, which is in line with our own Next Generation activities. We are convinced that Switzerland as one of the most innovative economies worldwide is an ideal host for an electric race. A Swiss ePrix would be a fantastic showcase for sustainable technologies,” comments Boris F.J. Collardi, Chief Executive Officer of Julius Baer. “We are very happy to get the opportunity to bring Formula E to Switzerland and would like to thank our Swiss partners, Bank Julius Baer and TAG Heuer, for their forceful support. Now we will work on the details of the race, including the selection of the city which will host it, with the goal to make it possible during the 2016/17 season,” says Alejandro Agag, CEO of Formula E Holdings. The popular success of this season’s inaugural FIA Formula E Championship with races in Beijing, Putrajaya, Punta del Este, Buenos Aires, Miami and those coming soon in Los Angeles, Monaco, Berlin, Moscow and London, proves the championship’s capacity to create a strong vision of emission-free transport. With the additional initiatives of FIA Formula E, the FE School Series and the integration of the ‘Formula Student’, they aim to inspire young people to embrace sustainable mobility and engineering.",
